Business Lane ("we", "us") provides websites for local businesses at business-lane.com and its subdomains. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what rights you have. It applies to business owners with an account and to visitors of websites hosted on our platform.
When you create an account we collect your name, email address, and a securely hashed password. When you build your website we store the business information you provide — such as your business name, contact details, address, opening hours, images, and page content — along with the customer records and invoices you create in your dashboard. If you subscribe, payments are handled by our payment provider, Stripe; we never see or store your full card details. We also keep technical logs (such as IP address and request information) to keep the Service secure and reliable.
When someone contacts a business, requests an appointment, or leaves a review through its website, we collect the details they submit — such as their name, email address or phone number, their message or booking request, and their review text and rating — and deliver them to that business. Reviews are only published if the business approves them. We process this data on behalf of the business; the business is responsible for how it uses customer inquiries. Visitors’ requests also appear in our technical logs.
We use data to operate the Service: hosting business websites, delivering customer messages, appointment requests, and reviews, showing in-app notifications, processing subscription payments, sending account emails (verification, password reset, activity notifications), preventing abuse, and improving reliability. We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
We send transactional emails only — account verification, password resets, welcome messages, and notifications about customer inquiries, appointment requests, and reviews. Delivery is handled by Amazon Web Services (SES). We keep a suppression list so addresses that bounce or complain are not contacted again.
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. When you log in, an authentication token is stored in your browser’s local storage to keep your session active; it is removed when you log out. Public business websites store only minimal technical state (such as a short cooldown after sending a message) in the visitor’s browser.
We host the Service on Amazon Web Services (including data storage, image hosting, email delivery, and logging), and subscription payments are processed by Stripe, which handles your payment details under its own security and privacy commitments. These providers process data on our behalf. We share data with no one else, except where required by law.
Your data is kept for as long as your account is active. You can edit or remove your business content at any time from your dashboard, and deleting your business removes its public website and associated content, including customer messages, customer records, and invoices. To delete your account entirely, contact us and we will remove your personal data unless we are legally required to keep it.
Passwords are stored using strong one-way hashing, reset and verification links are single-use and time-limited, and traffic to the Service is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, but we design for safety first and continuously improve our protections.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Contact us and we will honour applicable requests.
The Service is intended for business use and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18 as an account holder.
We may update this policy as the Service evolves. If we make material changes we will notify account holders by email or through the Service. The "Last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
