For restaurants and bakeries

A website for your restaurant or bakery

Two questions decide whether someone eats with you tonight: what have you got, and are you open. A website that answers both quickly is most of the job.

Your menu goes on as products, each with photographs and a price, grouped the way you actually serve. Opening hours are set per day, including the split hours real kitchens keep, and they show on your site and in the data search engines read.

Bakeries get the piece that matters most for them: custom order requests. Someone asks about a birthday cake for the 14th, the request arrives in your dashboard with their message, and you reply with a price and a yes or no.

On the Business plan, anything with a fixed price can also be ordered outright. Loaves, trays and boxes go in a cart; the customer picks collection or delivery and pays cash, by bank transfer or by card, and you confirm the order and tell them when it is ready.

What restaurants & bakeries actually need

  • Hours people can trust

Set them per day, including split lunch and dinner service. The announcement bar covers the holiday you are closing for.

  • A menu that looks like the food

Every dish can carry up to ten photographs. Photos are compressed automatically so the page still opens fast on a phone.

  • Custom orders and inquiries

Cake orders, large tables, catering — a customer asks against a specific item and you get the full context in your inbox.

What a website for restaurants & bakeries needs to do

Five things worth checking against whatever you end up building on, ours included.

Hours that are right today
More people check a restaurant's opening hours than read anything else on its site, and one wrong Sunday costs more goodwill than a bad photograph.
The menu as text
A menu in a PDF or a photograph cannot be read on a phone, cannot be searched, and cannot be quoted back by anything that indexes your site. It has to be real text on the page.
Photographs of your own food
Not the supplier's. A picture of the actual loaf, taken on a phone in daylight, outsells a stock image of somebody else's.
A place to announce a closure
Holidays, a private event, a burst pipe. Somewhere on the site you can put a line at the top of the page in thirty seconds, without help.
A way to ask about a cake or a table
Custom orders and larger bookings start as a question. If the only route is a phone call during service, the question does not get asked.

Questions from restaurants & bakeries

Can customers order and pay online?

On the Business plan, yes. Anything on your menu with a fixed price can go in a cart; the customer chooses collection or delivery and pays cash, by bank transfer, or by card through your own Stripe account where Stripe operates. You confirm each order, and the customer is emailed as it moves — being prepared, ready to collect, on its way. There are no delivery time slots, so it suits cakes, bread and trays ordered ahead better than hot food wanted in twenty minutes. Custom cakes still come in as a request you price yourself.

How do I handle a holiday closure?

The announcement bar sits across the top of your site and takes a line of text — "Closed 24th–26th December" — and appears the moment you save it. It is the fastest thing to change on your whole site, deliberately, because it is the thing that changes most.

Can I change the menu myself?

Yes, and that is the point of it. Adding a dish, changing a price or taking something off is done from your dashboard and is live immediately. There is nobody to email and no waiting.
